Writers and journalists get discounts at Soi 33’s “Propaganda Bar”

With walls lined with images of 20th and 21st century patriotism and nationalism, patrons of Propaganda Bar are treated to the art of agitprop.

Founded by Tom Athey, owner of Bangkok-based PR group Spark Communications, Propaganda is a stark reminder of the power of television, radio, newspapers and advertising. On the walls, patrons will find conversation starters like Winston Churchill murals, Donald Trump magazine covers, Che Guevara posters, Soviet-era advertisements, and more.

Cocktails are also inspired by propaganda around the world – like The 1984 (gin, Creme De Cassis, Triple Sec, pomegranate juice, lemon juice, syrup, 275 THB) inspired by George Orwell’s novel; or the WWII-inspired Loose Lips Sink Ships (vodka, sour apple liqueur, Triple Sec, apple juice, lemon juice, syrup, fresh mint, 275 THB).

Journalists, writers, editors are promised a 10% discount at the bar. Other professionals who will receive the same treatment are advertising agencies, radio stations, television productions and media buyers.

Propaganda Bar is located at Soi Sukhumvit 33, which is a short walk from BTS Phrom Phong. It is open from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
