Authors of all ages are invited to participate in the Ninth Annual Northville Art House Poetry and Short Story Contest.
The competition – presented by Dr. William Demray, founder of Preservation Dental in Northville – has expanded this year by offering authors from across the country to submit prose by mail as well as via a new online submission form. Each author must submit a poem or short story of less than 1,500 words, inspired by one of the ten photographs taken by Dr. Demray, available online. Submissions can be made in one of two categories for 17 and under and 18 and over. Cash prizes for each age category will be $100, $50 and $25 for first, second and third place respectively.
“We hope the photographs inspire you to stop, sit down in your favorite spot, and start writing. Anything,” Demray said. “The first thing that comes to mind that somehow speaks to you and gets the creative juices flowing.”
Winners will be announced at an Author Brunch on Saturday, June 18 at the Northville Art House, 215 W. Cady, in conjunction with Northville Art House’s annual Arts & Acts Festival.
The competition submission deadline is Friday, April 22. Proceeds from the $10 entry fee benefit the Northville Art House. Visit northvillearthouse.org/artsandacts/shortonwords for contest rules, photos, and mail and online entry forms.
